An ability to innovate, adapt, and focus sharply on customer satisfaction has contributed to making Regency Homes, L.C. Iowa's largest builder of single-family homes. Regency's founders, Michael Myers and Richard Moffitt, built their company with five core principles at the forefront: honoring relationships, integrity, trust, excellence, and commitment.

The partners erected their homebuilding company in 1986, with each man bringing a unique background to the table. Michael earned an associate's degree in construction technology from Iowa State University before taking a job with Cities Service Oil Company in 1970. He later worked as a residential homebuilder in Omaha; then decided he could do better on his own. He moved his family back to Des Moines in 1979 and started Stylesetter Homes. Dick grew up on a central Iowa farm, where he developed his strong work ethic. He finessed his "hands-on" type of construction management during a career in the construction industry.

Throughout the years, Regency has grown steadily on its own and through acquisition. The company originally carved out a niche in the mid-market sector during its first ten years, building about 175 homes a year. In 1996, Regency acquired Midland Homes, a player in the starter market. By 1999, Regency was building 650 homes a year, and two years later, Dick and Michael again broadened the company's mix of product offerings, establishing the MasterCraft Estate Homes division to focus on high-end, custom homes. The company recently entered two new ventures, Regency Land Development Services, to acquire and develop land for itself and other companies, and Regency Commercial Services.

Customers enjoy partnering with Regency because of the company's commitment to them. A unique warranty program provides clients with a two-year warranty on their home. A customer service specialist visits homeowners one year and two years after they close on the home. Recently, Regency opened a Design Studio in West Des Moines, where customers can select the materials, appliances, and landscaping for their new homes in a one-stop location.
